The term SAP reports can be rather confusing because in SAP lingo, the term “reports” is applied in general to SAP programs. The context of this article is the traditional understanding of this term — an application or program into which a user enters basic data that is then used by the program or application to query one or more databases and then to return information, generally in a formatted manner, for analysis, corrective action, and decision-making.

Despite the critical role reports play in an organization, I have noticed that reporting governance is an area that is not given due importance. As a result, the inventory of reports tends to balloon uncontrollably, along with a proliferation in the use of applications and tools used to generate them. This makes it hard to maintain any kind of process around report creation, enhancements, and management.
